Meeting Carl Andre

Performance, UdK / Institute of Art in Context
Date: 14. 07. 2016, 5-8 p.m
Location: Historic Hall, Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin

MEETING CARL ANDRE was an event by students for students. The goal was to consider the works in the exhibition Carl Andre: Sculpture as Place, 1958 – 2010 from other perspectives: in a game, in a conversation or in interventions. For one semester, students from different universities and disciplines have interacted with the works of Carl Andre’s and developed different actions. At MEETING CARL ANDRE you learned different attitudes towards art and could exchange ideas about it.

At this event a performance is performed, in which a three-dimensional “sculpture” emerged from a visual two-dimensional poem by Carl Andre. Walking through Carl Andre’s sculpture work “Laments for the Children” we used his own poetic works through our vocal dialogue approaching and talking to his sculpture. It’s a performance that unites text, voice and space.
